Diary of Eben King May 8 1873

May 08, 2013

From the "Diary 1873"
Blog of Susan Wuorinen

May 8-- Heavy frost this morning, froze some. Filed and set wood saw before breakfast. Hauled 4 loads manure in the AM. Planted it in PM to potatoes, the first I have planted  and furrowed some and hauled 2 loads of manure after supper.

Answer to yesterday's question: A Bark or Barque is a vessel having three masts, the fore and main are square rigged and the  missen schooner rigged. This leads to the next question....what does square rigged and missen rigged mean?

The Lone Star was owned by Gillman Hodgkins, a ship captain who lived in Lamoine. He owned many ships and this was one.  Thank you Susan Reynolds Hodgkins for this information.
